An expatriate was allegedly killed in the filmy style by some unidentified muggers and was thrown out from a running train at Haidarabad in Gazipur on Tuesday morning.
The deceased was identified as Shafiqul Islam, 38, a Malaysian expatriate. He was son of Altaf Hossain and hailed from Sirajganj district town.
Police recovered the body with two passports near the railway line in the area after being informed by locals, Police said.
Tongi Railway Police Station’s Sub-Inspector Alauddin said, “Shafiqul came to Dhaka from Malaysia on Monday. He was going to Sirajganj to visit his family by a train. At one stage, a gang of muggers killed Shafiqul and threw him from the train after snatching everything.”
Locals informed the police that a body was lying near the tracks in Haidarabad area around 11:00am, the police official said. Quoting the victim’s family, he said, “Shafiqul went to Malaysia in 2007 and later married a Malaysian national named Siti Hajar Binti. He came to Bangladesh on Monday to prepare documents for his wife. The recovered passport was issued for Shafiqul’s wife.”
It seemed that he was mugged before being pushed from a running train and suffered injuries in the head and chest, said the railway police officer.
The body was sent to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) for an autopsy.
An unnatural death case was lodged in this connection, said a Sub-Inspector of Tongi Railway Police Station.
