Bangladesh Ambassador in Thailand Ms. Saida Muna Tasneem has urged the expatriate Bangladeshis to forge unity against all sorts of terrorism, violent extremism and radicalization by upholding the secular values of the 1971 War of Independence.
The ambassador was speaking to a huge gathering of Bangladesh expatriate community and other South Asian community, diplomats and Thai dignitaries in a special event organized marking the 47th Independence and National Day of Bangladesh in Bangkok on Sunday, according to a message received here on Monday.
The Ambassador paid a gallant tribute to the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman for his fearless leadership of the struggle for independence of the Bangalee nation and saluted the valiant freedom fighters, martyrs and ‘Birangonas’ who made supreme sacrifices to secure Bangladesh’s independence in 1971.
Commenting on Bangladesh’s indomitable progress specially over the past 8 years, Ambassador Tasneem underlined that Bangladesh, under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina continues to enjoy its global acclaim as Asia’s growth and social development success story towards the realization of the Vision 2021.
Tasneem also called upon expatriate Bangladeshis to send their remittances through proper channels in order to contribute to Bangladesh’s record high growth rate of 7% achieved in 2016 and declared special recognition by the Embassy in Bangkok for highest remittance senders.
The Bangladesh embassy in Bangkok organized an elaborate Bangla folk festival titled “Celebrating Bangla Folk” as part of its two-day Independence Day celebrations starting last afternoon at Bangkok’s prestigious Royal Wangna Theatre.
A 22-member government cultural delegation from Bangladesh comprising eminent Lalon and Baul singers Baul Chandana Majumdar and Baul Shamir Hussein, performing arts group Nandon Kala Kendro specialized on folk dances of Bangladesh and a popular fusion folk music band ‘Joler Gaan’ sponsored by private TV Channel “Channel i”, performed at the Bangladesh folk festival.
