Expansion of internet services in edn institutions urged

Speakers at a function here on Sunday stressed the need for expanding high speed internet services in the country’s educational and research institutions for benefit of students, teachers and researchers.
They came up with the view at the opening ceremony of ‘Meet BdREN 2015’, an International Management, Operations, Applications and Services, at Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban on the Dhaka University campus.
They said, the country is progressing fast in the field of ICT and students, teachers and researchers are being highly benefited taking internet services.
BdREN (Bangladesh Research and Education Network), a high performance data communications network, is playing an important role through providing dedicated high-speed internet connectivity to educational and research institutions in both public and private sectors, they said.
Addressing the programme, UGC Chairman Dr A K Azad Chowdhury said, ” Our universities are sowing progress in the field of ICT. There should be virtual classrooms in universities. Expansion of BdREN in medical colleges, university colleges and research organizations is needed.”
Dhaka University Vice Chancellor Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique stressed the need for increasing IT literacy rate.
Senior Professors of public and private universities, foreign delegates, UGC high officials, representatives from HEQEP and BdREN, BTCL were, among others, present on the occasion.
