Chairman of University Grants Commission (UGC) Prof Abdul Mannan called for expanding technical and technological education coupled with quality improvement of its research for turning Bangladesh into a middle-income nation.
He said quality improvement in higher education must be ensured for socio-economic development of the nation. Young scientists need to be motivated towards research on various issues relating to industrial sector.
The UGC Chairman was inaugurating a three-day ‘International Conference on Mechanical Industrial and Materials Engineering (ICMIME) 2017’ in Rajshahi on Thursday as the chief guest.
Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET) organized the function at its central auditorium.
The main thrust of the conference is to promote information of research and development on related topics and interchange updated scientific information among the researchers, developers, engineers, students and practitioners working worldwide.
RUET Vice-Chancellor Prof Rafiqul Alam Beg, Professor Firoj Alam from Australian Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, Chairperson of the conference Prof Nirendranath Mustafi and Faculty Dean of Mechanical Engineering Prof Shamimur Rahman also spoke.
Prof Mannan expects the conference will provide a platform to bring together academician, researchers, industrialists, practitioners and other related experts from home and abroad to share knowledge and experiences.
It will also promote intellectual and practical development in the field of Mechanical, Industrial and Materials Engineering.
Large number of academics and researchers from home and abroad joined the conference offering technical activities, including research and technical sessions, poster sessions, exhibitions, an industry track a developers’ track.
