Speakers at a seed distribution ceremony have stressed for expanded cultivation of maize applying the modern agriculture technologies and more organic fertilisers to alleviate poverty and meeting nutritional demand.
They were addressing the ceremony arranged for distribution of maize seed by World Vision Bangladesh (WVB) under its Fulbari Area Development Programme (ADP) at Madila Sub-centre in Fulbari upazila of Dinajpur on Monday afternoon.
A total of 600 kilogram of quality maize seed were distributed among 100 poor and extremely poor farmers, with six kilogram each, of Aladipur, Eluari, Kazihal and Betdighee unions under Fulabri upazila in the ceremony.
The seed were distributed among the farmers to inspire them in expanding cultivation of the highly profitable cereal crop to meet nutrition of their own family members including children, alleviate poverty and improve livelihoods.
With Programme Officer of Fulbari ADP of WVB Badal Sangma in the chair, former chairman of Betdighee union Ramai Soren attended the ceremony and distributed maize seed as the chief guest.
Agriculture Officer of Fulbari ADP of WVB Arbindu Roy addressed the ceremony as the special guest and narrated the importance of expanded cultivation of maize, adoption of the latest technologies for its cultivation to get enhanced production.
