Chittagong University Journalists’ Association (CUJA) on Sunday demanded exemplary punishment to the medical staff for their alleged wrong treatment which caused the death of 3-year old girl Raifa.
The demands were made from a human chain in front of the Central Shaheed Minar in the university premises where they also demanded a proper investigation into the incident.
CU Proctor Ali Asgar Chowdhury expressed solidarity with the protest programme on behalf of the teachers.
He said several private hospitals and doctors were hogging newspaper headlines frequently for their wrong and negligent treatment.
“It is a noble profession but due to some greedy physicians who turned this noble profession into business, a sense of mistrust has grown,” he added.
CUJA President Syed Baizid Emon urged authorities concerned to remain alert against influential quarters’ intervention into the probe.
Associate Prof Shahab Uddin Nipu, Assistant Prof Shipak Nath, Assistant Prof Shahidul Alam Shaheed were present among others.
Meanwhile, a three-member probe committee of the Directorate General of Health Services visited the hospital, said Civil Surgeon Dr Azizur Rahaman Siddique.
Three-year-old Raifa, daughter of Rubel Khan, a senior reporter of the Bangla daily Samakal, died early on Sunday allegedly due to “wrong treatment” at a private hospital in Chittagong city.
