UNB, Dhaka :Former Jatiya Sangsad whip and BNP MP Mahbubul Alam Tara died at a Singapore hospital on Monday. He was 74. Tara, also the ex-president of Jatiyatabadi Krishak Dal, breathed his last around 2:40pm at the National University of Singapore, said BNP chairperson’s media wing member Shamsuddin Didar.Tara left behind two sons, two daughters, wife and a host of relatives and well-wishers to mourn his death.The former MP was taken to Singapore on May 29 as he had long been suffering from lung cancer.Family sources said Tara’s mortal remains will be brought back home from Singapore on Tuesday evening.He will be buried at his family graveyard at Farhad Nagar in Feni.Tara was elected MP from Feni-3 constituency with BNP ticket in the fifth parliamentary election in 1991. He was also made a whip of parliament.He joined Awami League in 2001 and contested the parliamentary election from the same constituency with AL ticket and got defeated. Later, Tara rejoined BNP.BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia expressed deep shock at his death.In a condolence message, Khaleda said, “BNP has lost an active and competent organiser and a devoted follower of Shaheed Zia at his death.'””The vacuum created at his death will not easily be recovered,” she added.The BNP chief prayed for salvation of the departed soul and conveyed her sympathy to the bereaved family members.
