Former Naniarchar Upazila Chairman Pritimoy Chakma was kidnapped from his house in Naniarchar upazila of the district of Rangamati.
Pritimoy Chakma is a leader of the United Peoples Democratic Front (UPDF).
UPDF Rangamati unit chief Shantideb Chakma said it in a statement on Friday.
UPDF spokesman Niron Chakma targeted the Jana Sanghati Samity (JSS-reform) and UPDF faction (UPDF-Democratic) for the incident.
He said in a statement that the miscreants kidnapped Pritimoy Chakma from his resident at Chairman para on Thursday
evening and drove him to Mubachhari, a terror den in Mohalchhari upazila by a engine boat. Niron Chakma condemned the incident and demanded immediate steps to rescue him.
Contrarily, the JSS-reform Assistant Publicity Secretary Proshanto Chakma said it might be the consequence of their (UPDF) internal conflict. “Our party men are not involved in this incident.”UPDF-Democratic Office Secretary Miton Chakma said that the UPDF men themselves might have committed the kidnapping.
Abdul Latif, the Officer-in-Charge of Naniarchar upazila Police, said on Fridy that no case was filed till that day. Action follows investigation.
Earlier on May 3, upazila Chairman Shaktiman Chakma was killed in his office at Naniarchar.
The upazila election is scheduled for July 25.
