Ex- UNO gets 8-yr Jail in graft case

A court here on Thursday sentenced former upazila nirbahi officer(UNO) of Panchhari upazila in Khagrachhari distirct to eight years imprisonment in a case filed for amassing wealth illegally.
The convict is identified as Mamunur Rashid.
The court also ordered the authorities concerned to confiscate his wealth worth Tk 38,68,48.
Under section 26(2) of the Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2004, he was sentenced to three years jail term and fined Tk 10,000, in default, he has to serve six months more imprisonment.
Besides, under section 27(1), he was sentenced to five year jail and fined Tk 10,000, in default, he has to serve one year more jail term.
According to Anti-Corruption Commission Public prosecutor Mir Ahmmed Ali Salam, On March 3, 2018, ACC asked Mamunur Rashid to submit his wealth statement. He submitted statement of his wealth worth TK 41,57,613.
However, it was found in investigation that he had amassed wealth worth Tk 11,03,90,575.
Later, ACC assistant director Helal Uddin Sharif filed the case with Ramna Police Station on April 15, 2009.
After examining all the records and witnesses, Dhaka divisional special judge Mizanur Rahman Khan handed down the verdict. The court also issued an arrest warrant as the convict did not appear before court.
