6 students murder: Ex-trial magistrate testifies

A court of Dhaka on Monday fixed February 26 to cross-examine former Senior Trial Magistrate Kazi Shahidul Islam in the Savar six students killing case.
Earlier, on January 11, Second Additional District and Sessions Judge of
 Dhaka, Rafiqul Islam fixed the date as witness Kazi Shahidul Islam could not appear before the court for cross-examination on that date. Similary, he was absent in the court on Monday. He is presently, a Joint-District Judge of Brahmanbaria. Of the 92 witnesses of the case, so far 46 testified.
On the night of Shab-e-Baraat, on July 18, 2011, a gang had killed six students near Aminbazar Bridge and took the bodies to Keblarchar, located half a kilometer off from the spot.
The victim students were: Tipu Sultan of Tejgaon College, Towhidur Rahman Palash, Kamruzzaman Kanto and Ibrahim Khalil of Mirpur Bangla College, Shams Rahim Shamim of Maple Leaf International School and Sitaf Jabi Munif of Bangladesh University of Business and Technology.
Their friend Al Amin, who was also with them, is the lone survivor. Earlier, the gang had called local villagers, saying they had caught some robbers.” The villagers beat up the youths. The murders were labeled by the accused as an incident of mob beating.
SI Anwar Hossain filed the murder case with Savar Police Station, accusing 500 to 600 unidentified villagers of Bardeshi village. After investigation, police submitted the chargesheet of the case against 60 persons. In 2013, the court framed charges against 60 persons in the case.
