Staff Reporter :
Former Superintendent of Police (SP) Babul Akhtar’s father Md Abdul Wadud Mia claimed that his son has been implicated intentionally by a vested group in the case of killing his daughter in law (Babul’s wife) Mahmuda Khanam Mitu.
He said that the most important witness of the case, Kamrul Islam Musa, was deliberately kept missing by the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI), and showing fear of crossfire,
the testimony of the witnesses was taken against Babul Akhtar.
Babul’s father Md Abdul Wadud Mia, also a retired Sub-Inspector of the Police, on August 2 this year, submitted a written application to the Inspector General of Police demanding a fair and impartial investigation into the killing of Mahmuda Khanam Mitu and punishment of the real culprits.
Citing a newspaper cutting Wadud Mia said in his application that accused Bhola was forced to give confessional statement under Section 164 against Babul Akhtar on threat of crossfire.
“Babul Akhtar’s success in his professional field such as recovering the mystery of various incidents, illegal drug smuggling, drugs, militants and illegal weapons created widespread jealousy among some dishonest officers of the department.
Babul Akhtar has been in Feni jail for 15 months in connection with the murder of my daughter-in-law, Mahmuda Khanam Mitu. From the very day of Mitu’s murder, we have been earnestly saying that the involvement of Babul Akhtar in this case is completely intentional and organized.
From the moment of his arrest to till date, we have realized that the PBI chief’s personal outrage regarding Babul Akhtar abnormally reflected, while carrying out his departmental service which demonstrated his lacking in professionalism.
Babul Akhtar was unjustly detained for 53 hours at PBI’s Chittagong office from 9:30 am on 10th May 2021 and was forced to write many statements in English and Bengali as instructed by PBI officials in various books and white papers.
The killing of Mitu, the forced dismissal of Babul from his job, the deliberate non-arrest of the police source Musa, the threat of crossfire and the collection of complaints against Babul are linked to the same source.
As a father, I am suspecting that Babul’s sentence may be given somehow through a media trial. They will unfairly prove that Babul is involved in the murder of his wife under the threat of crossfire. It will not be possible to unravel the true mystery of Mitu’s murder through this agency.
If Babul Akhtar is found guilty backed by accurate and fair evidence, I will accept it without hesitation. I am sincerely summoning a fresh and fair investigation of the whole incident by any other agency other than PBI and the real culprits be brought to justice.”
