Ex-SC Judge Amirul Kabir passes away

Justice Amirul Kabir Chowdhury, a former judge of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court and the first Chairman of National Human Rights Commission died at the age of 78.
He breathed his last in the Bangladesh Medical College Hospital in Dhaka on Tuesday evening.
Justice Amirul Kabir Chowdhury, who was suffering from lung infection, left behind his wife, two daughters, a son and a host of admirers to mourn his death, said his nephew Advocate Md Abid Chowdhury.
His first Namaj-e-Janaja was held at Dhanmondi Eidgah Mosque on Tuesday night while the second Janaja held at Chandgaon Baro Mosque of Chattogram on Wednesday.
Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain attended the Janaja at Dhanmondi, Abid Chowdhury said.
He was buried at Chandgaon graveyard in Chattogram on Wednesday afternoon.
Attorney General Mahbubey Alam, Supreme Court Bar Association President Advocate Zainul Abedin and Secretary Barrister A M Mahbub Uddin Khokan condoled the death of Justice Amirul.
Justice Amirul was born on June 23 in 1940 at Ramu upazila of Cox’s Bazar district. He started law profession from Cox’s Bazar district bar. He joined High Court Division as a judge in 1996 and in the Appellate Division in 2004.
He served as the chairman of the Labour Appeal Tribunal in 2007 and joined the National Human Rights Commission as Chairman in 2008.
