BNP vice Chairman, former Minister and Deputy Speaker LK Siddiqui died at 11am yesterday morning at Mount Elizabeth Hospital in Singapore. He was 83.
He left behind his wife, three sons, a daughter and
a host of relatives to mourn his death. Family sources said he was admitted to United Hospital in Dhaka on July 28, with serious heart disease. He was taken to Mount Elizabeth Hospital in Singapore on emergency basis on the very day for better treatment.
Siddiqui was elected Member of Parliament thrice from Sitakunda constituency in Chittagong in 1979, 1991 and 2001, said Aslam Chowdhury, BNP South district president.
His body will be brought to Dhaka on Saturday morning, Aslam Chowdhury said.
He will be buried at his family graveyard after the 4th Namaj-e-Janaja, which will be held at Sitakunda at 5 pm on Sunday. Different political organizations on Friday expressed their deep shock at the death of L K Siddiqui, a former water resources minister.
In their messages they recalled the contributions of L K Siddiqui to different democratic movements of the country.
They prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved members of the family.
