Former mayor of Khulna City Corporation (KCC) and BNP leader Advocate Sheikh Tayebur Rahman died at a hospital in the city on Friday night. He was 79. Sheikh Tayebur Rahman, former forest and environment affairs secretary of BNP central committee, breathed his last around 11:05pm at Nargis Memorial Clinic of the city, said his wife Laila Rahman. He had been undergoing treatment after he suffered a brain stroke on October 17, 2015. The former mayor was admitted to the clinic after he fell sick at about 10:00pm on Friday. Later, he died at the clinic at about 11:05pm. Sheikh Tayebur is survived by his wife, one son, three daughters and a host of relatives to mourn his death. Laila Rahman said Tayebur’s first namaz-e-janaza will be held in Shahid Hadis Park of the city around 11:30am while the second one will be held at Central Road after Zohr prayers. Later he will be buried at the graveyard at Kabari village in Bagerhat district. Sheikh Tayebur Rahman, who was also president of Khulna Bar Association, started his political career with NAP in 1965. He had held the office of mayor for long seventeen years. Tayebur was also once Bangladesh ambassador to Senegal. –Khulna, Jan 2 (UNB)
