The High Court (HC) on Wednesday fined former District and Session Judge of Feni Tk 5,000 for not providing protocol to the then High Court Judge Justice Syed Amirul Islam in the district in 2003.
The HC said, Feroz Alam, the then District and Session judge, will have to serve in jail for seven days if he does not pay the fine.
The HC bench of Justice Obaidul Hassan and Justice S M Kuddus Zaman delivered the verdict after hearing a Suo Moto (voluntary move) rule issued by a HC bench in 2003.
Deputy Attorney General Rafi Ahmed told the reporters that the then HC judge Justice Syed Amirul Islam went to Feni in 2003 for a visit.
As per the warrant of precedent, the District and Session judge is supposed to provide protocol to a judge of the Appellate and HC Divisions when they go out of Dhaka, but the then District and Session Judge Feroz Alam of Feni did not give protocol to Justice Syed Amirul Islam although he was informed about the visit.
Then the HC issued a Suo Moto rule against Feroz Alam, he said. After holding hearing on the rule the HC yesterday delivered the verdict.
In the judgment, the HC issued some directives for the District and Session Judges and the district administrations about giving protocol to the Supreme Court judges when they are on visit. The directive will be available in the full text of the judgment, DAG Rafi said.
