Ex-JL leader Khaled on 7-day remand in murder case

Khaled Mahmud Bhuiyan, a suspended leader of Jubo League (JL) of Dhaka South unit, has been placed on a seven-day remand in a murder case.
The court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Atikul Islam passed the order when Investigation
Officer (IO) Mina Mahmuda, also a Superintendent of Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI), produced Khaled before the court seeking 10-day remand plea.
According to the case documents, Khaled and his associates shot one Israil Hossain alias Israfil Hossain and Sharif Hossain Saimon in front of the house of one Anwar Hossain in the city’s Khilgaon area on September 4, 2014. At that time, they looted 38 lakh taka from the victims.
Saimon was killed on the spot while Israil sustained bullet injuries critically in the shooting. Later, Israil died on April 1, 2016 while undergoing treatment.
Mojibar Rahman, the victims’ relative, filed a murder case with Khilgaon Police Station against some four to five unidentified people on September 5 that year.
On August 22, 2017, Sub-Inspector (SI) Nipen Kumar Bhowmik of Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit of police submitted the chargesheet to the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court in Dhaka accusing three men -Kazi Sirajul Islam, Md Shahin alias Sirajul Islam and Golam Mostofa Shahin alias Police Shahin. Later, a Dhaka court directed PBI for further investigation on February 22 last year. The PBI investigators found Khaled’s involvement in the incident.
On September 18, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-3 arrested Khaled Mahmud Bhuiyan from his Gulshan residence for allegedly running an illegal casino in the city’s Fakirerpool area.
The law enforcing agency seized illegal weapons, yaba and huge cash from his residence. RAB handed him over to Gulshan Police Station on September 19. RAB filed three cases, one for possessing illegal arms, one under Narcotics Control Act and one under Money Laundering Prevention Act against Khaled.
