Former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Anwarul Iqbal, who died in Dubai on January 15, was laid to eternal rest here on Thursday afternoon.
Anwarul Iqbal, also a former caretaker government and a freedom fighter, was buried at Banani graveyard following a namaz-e-janaza
at Rajarbagh Police Lines after Zohr prayers. Senior Public Administration Secretary Dr Kamal Abdul Naser Chowdhury, IGP AKM Shahidul Haque, former and present senior police officers, relatives and friends of the deceased attended the janaza.
He was also given a guard of honour on behalf of Dhaka district administration.
Anwarul Iqbal, who was also first director general of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab), died in Dubai on January 15 at the age of 65, said Assistant Inspector General (Media) of Police Headquarters Md Jalal Uddin Ahmed.
Earlier in the morning, Additional IGP Md Mainur Rahman Chowdhury received the body of Anwarul Haq at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. Anwarul Iqbal promoted as the IGP in 2006. He was made an adviser of the Army-backed caretaker government in 2007.
