The Detective Branch (DB) of Police on Wednesday arrested ASI Kalimur Rahman, ex-husband of gang-raped female cop from Cox’s Bazar district in connection with the gang-rape of hid ex-wife.
The arrested man has been identified as ex-husband of the victim and the prime accused of the case. He was posted in the Special Security and Protection Battalion, police said.
DB Deputy Commissioner (East) Mahbub Alam said: “Acting on a tip-off, a special team of DB police conducted a drive and arrested prime accused ASI from a beach under Kolatoli Police Station in Cox’s Bazar in the morning.”
The DB are now interrogating Khalilur Rahman to know the motive behind the crime, the police official said.
The woman was allegedly gang-raped by her ex-husband and three others between June 10 and June 13. She managed to flee and reached at the One-Stop Crisis Centre the same day.
The victim’s sister filed a case against the ASI and four others accusing them of gang-raping her sister with Khilgaon Police Station on June 13.
Earlier, the victim came to the Rajarbagh Police Lines Hospital for treatment on June 10.
The victim told journalists that her divorced husband accompanied by three others sedated her. “I had gone to his house to see my three-year-old daughter.”
After three years of the marriage, the ASI demanded Tk 1 million as dowry and pressed her to quit her job which led to their divorce last year.
The victim filed a case in this connection and has since been living with her mother in Gazipur.
Meanwhile, the forensic test report released on Tuesday, suggested that the female constable of Turag Police Station under Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has been raped by a gang.
From tests conducted on the victim after she had reported the rape, the forensic department of Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) found injury marks on her body, suggesting she might have been tortured for around 96 hours.
However, experts said it was difficult to determine whether it was a gang-rape or not.
