Former Bangladesh national hockey player, coach and national award winning athlete Ehtesham Sultan who breathed his last at a city hospital in Mirpur on Monday morning. He had been suffering from liver cancer for a long time.
Ehtesham Sultan’s younger brother Imtiaz Sultan Johnny is the former captain of Bangladesh national football team. Another of his brothers, Elham, was a goalkeeper for the Abahani Sports Club in the 1970s. He played hockey in Sonali Bank’s jersey.Ehtesham Sultan played hockey for the East Pakistan team from 196-70. After independence, Bangladesh was a member of the national team. He played hockey Test series against Sri Lanka in Dhaka in 1986. He also became the coach of the national team after retiring in the early eighties. He was the coach of Bangladesh team in many international tournaments including Asia Cup and Asian Games.
