Ex DU Prof murder Accused put on 3-day remand

A Gazipur court placed an accused on a three-day remand in connection with the murder of Dr Sayeeda Khaleque, a retired professor of the Institute of Nutrition and Food Science of Dhaka University.
Gazipur Metropolitan Court Judge Mehdi Pabel issued the order after the investigating officer of the case Kashimpur Police Station SI Dipankar Roy had produced Md Anwarul Islam with a 10-day remand plea.Prof Dr Sayeeda Khaleque was recovered form Gazipur on Friday morning, three days after she had gone missing.
It is learnt that Sayeeda Khaleque was constructing a new house in the Dhaka university’s residential area in South Panishail under Ward No. 1 of Gazipur City Corporation. She was abducted from there on Wednesday last.
Anwarul Islam, an associate contractor of the residential project, was arrested as a suspect in connection with the murder of Sayeeda Khaleque, said police.
Kashimpur Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mahbubey Khoda said that Anwarul home is at Burjug Jamalpur village under Sadullahpur police station in Gaibandha. After the murder of Professor Saida, the police arrested him from her village home.
Earlier, Ifkhar bin Zahir, son of Professor Saida, a retired Professor of Dhaka University, filed a murder case against Anwarul with Kashimpur police station. The deceased Saida Gaffar was a professor in the Department of Nutrition, Dhaka University. She retired in 2016.
