Former Director of Bangla Academy and eminent writer and translator Habib-ul-Alam died of old age complications at a hospital in the city on Wednesday.
Bangla Academy Chairman Emeritus Professor Anisuzzaman and Director General Professor Samsuzzaman Khan expressed profound shock at the death of Alam.
In a condolence message, they prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family members.
The body of Alam was kept on the premises of Bangla Academy where Professor Anisuzzaman, Professor Samsuzzaman, researchers Dr Bhuiyan Iqbal, Anowara Syed Haque and Subrata Barua and officials and employees of the academy paid their last respect.
After namaz-e-janaza at Bangla Academy, Alam was buried at Mirpur Martyred Intellectual graveyard.
