The High Court on Wednesday denied bail to suspended Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of the Prisons Bazlur Rashid in connection with a corruption case filed over amassing Tk 30.8 million beyond the known source of his income.
The HC Bench of Justice Jahangir Hossain passed the order after holding a virtual hearing on a bail petition placed by Bazlur Rashid’s lawyer seeking bail in the case.

Khurshid Alam Khan appeared for Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) and Attorney General Mahbubey Alam for the State.
After the court order, Advocate Khurshid Alam Khan said that the court rejected the petition saying that the lawyers for the accused might place the bail petition before it after the court resumes its regular functions.
Earlier on January 29 this year, a division bench of the High Court rejected his bail petition and asked the Anti-Corruption Commission to complete the investigation into the case within six months.
The ACC arrested Bazlur in a case filed with its Integrated District Office and showed him arrested in the case on October 20 last year.
According to the case statement, Bazlur Rashid signed a contract with Rupayan Housing Estate on April 24, 2018, to buy a 2,981 square feet flat on the first floor of an apartment building in the capital’s Siddheswari Road. The price of the flat was Tk 30.9 million.
During the interrogation by an ACC team Bazlur said that he gave Rupayan Housing Estate Tk 30.8 million in six installments. But he could not show any legal source of the money during interrogation by the ACC officials.
