A Dhaka court on Thursday sent Shafiq-ur-Rahman, former Director General of Bangladesh Coast Guard (BCG), to jail in a graft case.
Metropolitan Magistrate Emdadul Haque passed the order.
Earlier, on Wednesday night, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) arrested the ex-BCG Director General from his residence at Mohakhali DOHS in the city.
Deputy Director of ACC SM Rafiqul Islam conducted the raid for embezzling around Tk seven crore in connection with purchasing 11,100 tonnes of wheat, said ACC Public Relations Officer Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya.
A case was filed against five persons including Shafiq-ur-Rahman with the now-defunct Bureau of Anti-Corruption (BAC) in 1998 for embezzling around Tk 7 crore while purchasing 11,100 metric tons of wheat.
