Ex-CJ Mahmudul Amin laid to rest

Former Chief Justice of Bangladesh Mahmudul Amin Choudhury was buried adjacent to the Shrine of Hazrat Shah Jalal (RA) in Sylhet on Monday evening.
Earlier, his Namaz-e-Janaza was held at 10.30am at the Supreme Court garden in Dhaka.
Acting Chief Justice Muhammad Imman Ali, Appellate Division Judges — Justice Hasan Foez Siddique and Justice Md Nuruzzaman, Judges of the High Court Division of the Supreme Court, former Chief Justice M Mozammel Hossain, Attorney General Mahbubey Alam, Bangladesh Bar Council Vice Chairman Advocate Yusuf Hossain Humayun, Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) President Advocate A M Amin Uddin and former President of SCBA Advocate Zainul Abedin, among others, attended the Namaz-e-Janaza.
After the Namaz-e-Janaza, Acting Chief Justice Muhammad Imman Ali announced that both the divisions of the Supreme Court would not sit for trial activities on Monday in honor of the former Chief Justice.
And then the Acting Chief Justice on behalf of the Chief Justice, Attorney General, SCBA, Bangabandhu Awami Lawyers’ Council and Nationalist Lawyers’ Council paid tributes to his coffin.
Former Chief Justice Mahmudul Amin Choudhury died on Sunday evening at his Dhanmondi residence in the capital city.
He was 82 and was suffering from old-age complications. He left behind two daughters, one son and many well-wishers to mourn his death.
Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain expressed deep shock at the death of Mahmudul Amin Chowdhury, said Md Saifur Rahman, Special Officer of the High Court Division of the Supreme Court.
Saifur said, the first Namaz-e-Janaza was held at Dhanmondi after Fazr prayers and another on the Supreme Court premises. Then his body was taken to Sylhet.
He was the 11th Chief Justice of Bangladesh and served the post from March 1, 2001 to June 17, 2002.
He was born on June 18, 1937 in Sylhet district. He completed his matriculation from Sylhet Government Pilot High School and he did his graduation from Sylhet MC College. Then he was admitted to Dhaka City Law College for his LLB degree.
He started his professional life as an advocate in the Sylhet district judge court. He was sworn as the judge of the High Court Division of the Supreme Court in 1987 and was elevated to the Appellate Division in 1999. He took oath as the 11th Chief Justice of the country on March 1, 2001.
