A former soldier was gunned down by a gang of assailants at Dhanuakhala village of Comilla Sadar upazila early Saturday.
The name of the deceased is Mobarak Hossain. He was working at a travel agency after retirement from Army, said Nazirabazar Police Outpost Inspector Mahmudul Hasan Rubel.
“Few armed men attempted to enter the
home around 2:00 am by cutting the lock and shot at Mobarak who was walking on the veranda of the house,” the police official said.
The injured man was taken to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Comilla Cantonment where he was declared dead by the doctors, said the Inspector.
It is not clear whether it was a robbery attempt, but an investigation is on, the police official said.
Mobarak had dispute with some local people over his business. Following a call from someone, he opened the door and the miscreants fired several rounds of bullets at him, leaving him injured, according to the police official said.
