Department of Law, East West University (EWU) arranged a seminar titled, “Sixteenth Amendment Cancellation Verdict: The Debate” recently at EWU campus, Aftabnagar in the capital. The purpose of the seminar is providing opportunity to the students of the Department of Law to acquire clear ideas regarding the ongoing sensational issues from the experienced and renowned law professionals of Bangladesh.
The keynote speaker of this seminar was Dr Badrul Hasan Kachi, Advocate Supreme Court of Bangladesh and Editor of an online news portal known as “Lawyers Club Bangladesh”. The program was chaired by Prof Dr Tureen Afroz, Chairperson, Department of Law, EWU. All the faculty members and a selected number of students were present in the seminar.
The keynote speaker mainly emphasized on bringing light into the most contentious issues on the Sixteenth Amendment cancellation verdict followed by answering some queries raised by the faculty members and students.
The seminar was concluded by Professor Dr. Tureen Afroz who quoted in her speech that ‘no one is above the law’. She expressed that the Bangladesh Supreme Court judges are not above accountability and thus, there should be an external forum for ensuring their accountability.
