UNB, Comilla :
Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) Dr Mizanur Rahman on Thursday said some evidence of the murder of college student Sohagi Jahan Tonu might have been tampered.
“A spot visit might give
an impression that some evidence might have been tampered. If something like that happened, it many divert the trial proceedings to a different direction and create an obstacle towards identifying the real offenders,” he said. The NHRC chief also said if the evidence had been tampered, the perpetrators should be brought to justice. “This should be done for the sake of justice,” he said while exchanging views with local journalists at Comilla Circuit House after visiting the scene where Tonu’s body was found.
Dr Mizan said, the place from where Tonu’s body was recovered was found clean. “It seemed someone is buried newly. This raises questions,” he said. He feared that if the evidence got distorted, it may make the investigation process difficult.
Earlier, the NHRC chief talked to the parents of Tonu and exchanged views with Comilla Deputy Commissioner, Police Super and Army officials over the issue.
The body of Tonu, 19, a second year history student of Victoria College and a member of Victoria College Theatre, was recovered from Comilla’s Mynamati Cantonment area on the night of March 20.
