Eviction of risky dwellers from hill pockets begins

District administration launched eviction drive to evict the risky hill pocket dwellers from Matijharna hill areas of Lalkhan bazar in city from yesterday morning. This is the first eviction drive against the illegal residents from hill pocket. But these evicted residents will not be rehabilitated this year.
 Executive Magistrate Saiful Islam said that they identified 600 risky dwellers in the area and DA decided to evict them before the moonson rain .
The DA sources said most of the areas in the hill of Matijarna belong to Railway, WASA and PWD.
He said all illegal hill pocket residents will be evicted gradually but first 600 residents detected residing in risky hill pockets. Sources said 15 service oriented organisations including police, RAB, City Corporation, fire brigade, Wasa , PWD and a number of NGOs are participating the eviction drive from Sunday morning.
The representatives of these organisation assembled at Chittgong circuit house premises in the morning and short briefing to the participants went to the spot aimed at evicting the illegal hill pocket dwellers.
Hill Saving committee led by Chittagong Divisional commissioner identified these risky dwellers in 28 hill pockets of the area, sources said.
Mentionable that in every rainy seasons, incidents of hill landslide were occurring in these area caused loss of valuable lives.
