The Dhaka district administration conducted a eviction drive in Mirpur on Thursday to recover grabbed land of city canal.
Ilias Mehedi, the Executive Magistrate of the Dhaka district administration led the team.
“We have evicted 30 illegal installations from the land of the canal in the Baishtek area of Mirpur,” Ilias Mehedi told the journalists.
He said, “Such drives were conducted several times in the past. The administration will evict all the illegal installations.”
The Executive Magistrate said that the Dhaka North City Corporation and the Dhaka Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (DWASA) associated the drive.
He firmly assured that the administration would conduct such eviction drives to recover grabbed canals in the city.
“Canal grabbing is the main reason of water stagnant in the city. So, we must recover all canals from the illegal grabbers. Before completing the recovery of all canals, we cannot stop,” he said.
Pallabi Police were present during the drive.
Dadan Kabir, the Officer-in-Charge of Pallabi Police Station, said, “We are here to support the administration. If any quarter tries to create obstruction, we must take action.”
