In the midst of the overcast situation, Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) has demolished at least two four-storey buildings as well as huge number of shops in the second day of the eviction drive at Fulbaria Super Market-2 in city’s Gulistan.
The officials of DSCC came to the operation with a large number of law enforcers on Wednesday noon.
The eviction operation started after removing thousands of businessmen and employees of the market.
At that time, the traders claimed that previous DSCC

administration had collected crores of taka from these unplanned buildings and shops for giving the validities.
At the same time, the members of the expedition team also smashed huge number of shops which built in the parking, toilets and elevators space of the market.
According to City Corporation sources, about Tk 4.5 crore has been collected from 308 non-design shops of block A, 292 shops at block B and 311 shops at block C of Fulbaria Super Market in the last eight years.
Meanwhile, South City Mayor Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh said that all types of waste’ would be removed from the metropolis. We are also removing all man-made waste.
The eviction would continue at any cost, Mayor Taposh said. Besides, corruption is also being removed from Dhaka South City Corporation.
It is mentionable that some 2,300 shops were constructed at the Fulbaria Supermarket-2 following the main design. But 911 others were built illegally on different times. Of them, 308 are in block-A, 292 in block-B, and 311 in block-C.
DSCC sources said the construction of the illegal shops in the basement started in 1997 when late Mohammad Hanif was the mayor. With some conditions, Mayor allowed the traders association concerned to run businesses in the basement temporarily.
Earlier, from March 2012 to March 2020, DSCC collected around Tk 4.5 crore for rent. Apart from legal rent, the owners’ association also took huge amount of money from traders for various reasons saying validities.
