Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha [RAJUK] launched an eviction drive and demolished several illegal shops at the basement of Pink City Shopping Complex in city’s Gulshan on Monday.
The market authorities in a written affidavit assured the RAJUK that they would clear the basement for car parking by shifting away other shops from there by today [Tuesday]. Getting the undertaken, the RAJUK authority adjourned the eviction drive. The drive started with the cooperation of Gulshan police at 11:00 am. At first the executive magistrate gave 30 minutes timeframe to Gulshan Sharee Museum and Top Ten Fabrics and Tailors to shift their goods from showrooms.
It was also seen that the entire basement of the market has been allotted to different shops and establishments occupying the area of car parking. The scenario was all the same in the other side of the basement where market authorities allotted shops as their desire. In this situation, the magistrate ordered to shift goods of the shops to the rooftop or any other places. The magistrate also directed the market authority to shift the mosque to another suitable place.
Later, the labourers who came with mobile court, started demolishing illegal shops getting instruction from the magistrate.
“If they won’t shift the rest shops from the basement of Pink City Shopping Complex by Tuesday, the RAJUK will conduct eviction drive again,” said Khandaker Zakir Hossain, Executive Magistrate of RAJUK, said.
Official sources said the eviction drive has been launched in a bid to reduce traffic jam in the area. “We have started eviction drive getting instruction from Housing and Public Works Minister Mosarraf Hossain. The drive will continue for a month across the capital. If necessity, the drive will continue for more than a month,” Sawdagor Mustafizur Rahman, Director of RAJUK Zone-4, said. He said, “We will take stern action if there is any illegal establishment found in the basement during second time inspection. We will also fine them apart from demolishing the illegal structures. “
