Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Sayeed Khokon on Wednesday said every citizen would have to play his or her role as a mayor to make the capital Dhaka a liveable one.
“I will take care the city’s roads and wash out dust from it but every individual should come forward for the betterment of the city”, the mayor said while speaking at a discussion on “Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
To mark the 40th National Mourning Day, Bangladesh Chhatra League, a student wing of the ruling Awami-league, of Jagannath University (JnU) unit organised the programme at university central auditorium.
“Sheikh Mujibur Rahman sacrificed himself for the betterment of the country and the nation, his novelty has made him Bangabandhu, like him his beloved daughter protects country’s democracy through rigid struggle and movement”, Khokon said.
He advised the BCL leaders and activists to play vital role to reach the destination of the vision-2021 and take responsibility to establish the country as a developing one.
JnU Vice-chancellor Professor Dr Mizanur Rahman, as a special speaker, said, “As a progressive nation, we should work together with harmony to fulfil the visions of the country’s independence, which is dreamt by Nation’s Father. The spirit of Bangabandhu can be upheld through the affection for the nation”.
He urged BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia not to celebrate her birthday on August 15, as it is the National Mourning Day.
BCL central President Sayfur Rahman Shohag said, “The main duty of a BCL activist is to finish the unfinished task of Bangabandhu”.
BCL central General Secretary SM Jakir Hossain said, “There is no guardian in Bangladesh Chhatra League except Deshrotno Sheikh Hasina”.
JnU unitr BCL President FM Shoriful Islam presided over the meeting while its General Secretary SM Sirajul Islam conducted the programme.
Former BCL General Secretary Nazrul Islam Babu, former President of Dhaka Aayeenjeebi Somiti Advocate Kazi Nojobullah Hiru, JnU Treasure Professor Selim Bhuiyan, Proctor Dr Noor Mohammad, JnUTA President Professor Dr Ali Noor, Govt Kabi Najrul College unit BCL President Mamun Hossain, General Secretary Md Shohel, Govt Shuhrawardi College unit BCL President Kamrujjamn Himu, General Secretary Kawser Haq were also spoke, among others, on the occasion.
