Poor batting display by Bangladesh women’s cricket team allowed India to record 64-run victory in the opening match of the Women’s T20 Asia Cup held on Saturday at the Asian Institute of Technology ground in Bangkok.
Chasing India’s moderate total of 118-6, the Bangladesh found the chase very stiff in the face of India’s tight bowling stacks and finally dismissed at a paltry total of 56 in 18.2 overs.
Shaila Sharmin top-scored with 18 while an experienced Salma Khatun who scored 17, was the other double-digit scorer in the Bangladesh.
India Leg-spinner Poonam Yadav was the most successful bowler for India as she bagged three wickets conceding 13 runs in her quota of four overs. She was well supported off-spinner Anuja Patil who took two wickets giving away 7 runs in her three overs. Earlier, put to bat first by Bangladesh, Indian’s total were build by the solid 70-run opening stand by openers Mithali Raj (49 n.o) and Smriti Mandhana (41).
Bangladesh’s leg-break bowler Khadijatul Kubra claimed two wickets for 14 runs. M Raj of India was named the player of the match for his impressive batting performance in the match.
In the remaining matches, Bangladesh will play their next match against Thailand on Monday (November 28), followed by Nepal and Pakistan on November 29 and 30 respectively.
The Tigress will play their last group stage match against Sri Lanka on December 3. The final will take place on December 4 at the same venue.
