Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM) of Dhaka Md Hasibul Haque yesterday placed Mohammad Rassel, founder and CEO of Evaly, on a one-day remand in another case filed in connection with embezzlement of about Tk 35.85 lakh from a businessman.
However, the court, sent Rassel’s wife and Chairman of Evaly, Shamima Nasrin, to the jail rejecting both the remand and bail prayers.The couple was produced in the court on completion of their three-day remand in the other case filed with Gulshan Police Station over embezzlement of Tk 3,10,597 from a customer.
The ACMM Court passed the orders after Nazmul Huda, a Sub-Inspector of Dhanmondi Police Station and Investigation Officer of the case, produced the couple in the court with a seven-day remand plea for each.
The remand prayer says, the couple, in collusion with other accused, bought various products worth Tk 35,85,542 from four companies. But they did not pay the money, even though the complainant asked for it several times. Therefore, the couple need to be remanded to gather information about their failure as to why they did not pay the money.
Defence lawyer, submitted a petition seeking bail along with cancellation of the remand prayer, saying that their clients have failed to sell the products bought from the complainant and could not clear the payment timely due to Covid-19 pandemic.
Upon hearing, the ACMM turned down the defence plea and placed Rassel on remand and sent Shamima to the jail, rejecting remand and bail petitions both.
On September 17, Kamrul Islam Chokdar, a businessman filed the case with Dhanmondi Police Station against the couple and 10 other employees of the Evaly.
RAB arrested the couple on September 16 form their flat in the capital’s Mohammadpur area after a customer filed a case with Gulshan Police Station about the embezzlement.
