EU holds 6th Convocation

The 6th Convocation of Eastern University (EU) was held at its permanent campus at Ashulia in the city on Saturday.
Deputy Education Minister Mohibul Hassan Chowdhoury presided over the ceremony and conferred degrees to the graduating students on behalf of the President and Chancellor of EU. Prof Dr Kazi Shahidullah, Chairman of the University Grants Commission of Bangladesh was the special guest in the program. He highlighted on the importance of lifelong learning.
JoAnne Wagner, Charge d’ Affaires, United States Embassy in Dhaka was the Convocation Speaker. After congratulating the graduate students, she urged them to give their maximum effort for wellbeing of the world.
A total of 2972 students from different Faculties were conferred degrees in the ceremony. Among them, two students – Nowshin Rahman and Sraboni Sarkar received Chancellor’s Gold Medal. They are from Faculty of Business Administration. Three students – Sadia Afrin from Atrs Faculty, Ananna Islam from Business Administration and Nushera Tazrin Darin from LLM received Chairman’s Gold Medal. Four students- Debika Sinha Gargi from Arts Faculty, Md. Nazmul Islam Jihad from Business Administration, Md Tarek from Engineering and Technology and Masuma Dil Afroz from Law Department received Vice Chancellor’s Gold Medal.
Mohibul Hassan Chowdhoury advised the students to be a good citizen. He mentioned that all universities must maintain quality in imparting education. He urged the students to take leadership in different sectors of the nation to expedite the dream of the father of the nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh MujiburRahman.
Prof Dr Shahid Akhter Hossain, Vice Chancellor of EU, congratulated the graduating students and their parents. He urged the students to be equipped with modern technological knowledge and become dynamic, successful and a good human being.
Prof Dr Shahid Akhter Hossain delivered the welcome speech. Liaquat Hossain Moghul, Chairman, Board of Trustees of EU thanked all the guardians and parents for putting their trust on EU.
The program ended with vote for thanks from Prof Tahmina Ahmed, Dean of Arts Faculty of EU. He thanked all the students, guardians, faculty members, officials, volunteers, and all others who were involved in making the program success. He also expressed deep gratitude to the Board of Trustees, the Syndicate, the Academic Council and all other committees related to the convocation for their gracious support.
The official program was followed by Convocation Lunch and a Cultural Program by the current students. After their performance, Joyful atmospheres created at the ceremony while the legendary Bangladeshi Band ‘Souls’ came to the stage. The Students and guests were highly enjoyed their performance.
