Court Correspondent :
The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka yesterday placed MM Sekandar, Chief Reporter of a private television channel on a two-day remand in a case filed on the charge of sexually harassing a female journalist of the same channel.
Magistrate Satyabrata Sikder of the CMM Court issued the order after Mobin Ahmed Bhuiyan, Sub-inspector of Hatirjheel Police Station and Investigation Officer (IO) of the case, produced Sekandar in the court with a five -day remand petition.
In the petition, the IO said Sekander needed to be interrogated about the involvement of others in the incident.
On the other hand, defense counsel Tuhin Howlader filed a bail petition on behalf of accused Sekandar, but the court rejected it
Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested Sekandar from his Banasri residence of the city around 2:30 am on Sunday.
On Monday, Sekandar was handed over to Hatirjheel Police Station after the victim filed a case against him under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act, said Abu Mohammad Fazlul Karim, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of the police station.
Before filing the case, the victim submitted a petition to the channel authorities. The three-page application addressed to ETV’s Managing Director, allegedly gave details of how the harassment occurred.
She claimed that Sekandar had been sexually harassing her for a long time, but when she took up the matter with the higher authorities, they did not pay any heed to her complain.
