The Department of Livestock Services will provide high quality of cross-breed cows and some other cattle and three months’ of food assistance for their rearing to the 1,37,936 small ethnic families of the plain land areas of the country as the government grants.
The department will distribute these cattle under a project of the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock named “Integrated Livestock Development Project aimed at improving the socio-economic and living standards of the backward small ethnic minorities living in the plain land areas”.
The project started its activities since July 1, 2019 and will continue till June 30, 2023, said a press release.
A total of 210 Field Facilitators will be recruited from the small ethnic people to assist the beneficiaries in farm management.
In the fiscal year 2019-2020, each of the 715 ethnic families of the north-eastern and central region of the country had been provided by a high quality cross-breed cow and 50 days of food assistance for their rearing.
Besides, some house building materials were also distributed among those people. In the fiscal year 2020-2021, each of the 865 ethnic families of the north-eastern and central region of the country had been provided by a high quality cross-breed cow and 50 days of food assistance for their rearing.
Project Director Dr Ashim Kumar Das said that this project will reduce poverty and improve the quality of life of the backward ethnic groups through socio-economic development.
