Ethnic community’s cultural heritage should be protected

Speakers at a prize-giving discussion opined that there should be effective and adequate measures for protecting the cultural heritage of the ethnic communities from further diminishing.
They also observed that all quarters should take the responsibility to protect the cultural heritage of the plain ethnic communities as their heritage, resource are integral part of the society.
Rajshahi Divisional Ethnic Community Cultural Academy organised the function in its auditorium marking the celebration of ethnic communities’ traditional ‘Karam Festival-2015’ yesterday afternoon.
Former Mayor of Rajshahi City Corporation AHM Khairuzzaman Liton and Principal of Rajshahi Court Degree Collage Prof Shafiqur Rahman addressed the discussion as chief and special guests respectively with Munir Hossain, Commissioner-in-Charge of Rajshahi division, in the chair.
District unit president of Jatiya Adibashi Parishad Bimal Chandra Rajoad, Executive Director of Adibashi Sangskritik Unnayan Sangstha Raj Kumar shaon, President of Adibashi Sammilita Nari Jote Kolpona Tirki and Deputy Director of the academy SM Shamim Akter also spoke.
Chief Guest Liton viewed that cultural practices and other ancestral entertainment of the ethnic communities are gradually diminishing due to various reasons and called for protecting the cultural heritage from further degradation.
He said he had been with the ethnic community people in the past and will remain with them in future. He underscored the need for undertaking effective measures towards the livelihood development of the plain-land ethnic people as they are adjudged as most vulnerable and underprivileged section of the society.
Munir Hossain said Bangladesh is an instance of communal harmony as people of all the religions have been celebrating their respective religious and cultural festivals freely for long. He observed that the present government is very positive and cautious to uphold the dignity.
As a result, the country is now being widely adjudged as a unique example of communal harmony as people of all religions live with equal rights alongside peace and tranquility.
