‘Ethnic community cultural heritage should be protected’

Speakers at a ceremony here have said the cultural heritage of the ethnic communities must be protected from further degradation.
They viewed the culture of the ethnic communities as heritage, resource and integral part of the society, so all quarters should take the responsibility of protecting it.
They were addressing the inaugural ceremony of a two-day Annual Cultural Competition and Prize-giving programme-2014 for some ethnic communities being held at Gunigram Secondary School premises under Godagari Upazila of the district today.
Rakkhagola Village Community Organizations under their ‘Aboriginals Village-based Sustainable Food Security Program’ organized the cultural event in association with Center for Capacity Building of Voluntary Organization (CCBVO) and Bread for the World.
Twenty six ethnic community organizations took part in the programme.
Prof Hassan Azizul Haque and President of SUPRO Mustafizur Rahman Khan addressed the session as chief and special guests respectively with Saheb Murmu, Convener of Rakkhagola Cultural Center in the chair.
Senior Banker and President of CCBVO Ariful Haque Kumar, Headmaster of Gunigram High School Shariful Islam, CCBVO Executive Chief Sarwar-E-Kamal and Journalist Anwar Hossain Dilu also spoke.
The speakers viewed that cultural practices and other ancestral
entertainment of the ethnic communities are gradually diminishing due to various reasons and called for protecting the cultural heritage from further degradation.
Prof Hassan Azizul Haque said he was along with the ethnic community people in the past and will remain with them in future also. He assured his cooperation for the development of the ethnic groups.
He underscored the need for undertaking effective measures towards the livelihood development of the plain-land ethnic people as they are adjudged as most vulnerable and underprivileged section of the society.
