‘Establishing peace in hills necessary’

Establishing peace, amity and rapprochement among the people living in Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) region is very vital for the greater interest. Sports are part of human life. It’s so important to keep our minds and body sound, and it also can play a conducive role in maintaining racial harmony in the society.
Chairman of CHT Regional Council Jyotirindra Bodhipriya Larma widely known as Santu Larma was addressing the programme of “Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Dhaka Marathon 2021” as the chef guest in Rangamati on Thursday. Rangamati region organised the event to mark the home coming day and birth centenary of father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at the compound of Rangamati zone in the town.
Brid Gen Iftequr Rahman, region commander of 305 infantry brigade in Rangamati, in his welcome address said security forces in hills have been working relentlessly from the very beginning to ensure peace, amity and development. Military are engaged in hills for “Operation Uttoran” after signing of the CHT accord. Main motto of the peogramme is—peace, amity and development, he said.
As we stood beside and fought with the general people during war of liberation in 1971, so in such a way, we all in join-hand will work together for the development of this country, asserted commander.
Referring the marathon event, Iftequr said it’s not absolutely a competition. It’s a symbolic event just to uphold the spirits of the war of liberation and for recalling Bangabandhu, his ideology and leadership qualities.
Hundreds of people of all ages from different areas were participated in the marathon. The winners were awarded with certificates at the programme.
BGB sector commander Col Saidur Rahman, AKM Mamunur Rashid, deputy commissioner of Rangamati, elected representatives, government and military officers were present, among others.
