Court Correspondent :
The Second Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court of Dhaka yesterday (Thursday) did not pronounce the verdict in the Eskaton double murder case. Following an appeal of the prosecution Judge of the court Md Manjurul Imam set October 17 for further hearing in the case.
The case was filed against Bakhtiar Alam Rony, son of Awami League lawmaker Pinu Khan and the verdict was scheduled to be declared yesterday. Assistant Public Prosecutor of the court Mohammad Maksud told newsmen that, in the case the mobile call-list of the lone accused was seized. The Investigation Officer (IO) testified about it. However, the call-list document was not exhibited through oversight. In this circumstances, they decided to recall the IO to exhibit the call-list document (CLD). Later, the court is supposed to deliver the verdict.
Earlier, on September 19, the court fixed the date to deliver the verdict after completion of arguments on behalf of the defence and the prosecution.
Earlier, on April 10, another Dhaka court had set May 8 for delivering verdict in the case.
However, the case was transferred to the court of Judge Md Monjurul Imam as the previous court felt embarrassed to hear the case.
On April 13, 2015, a heavily intoxicated Rony allegedly fired gunshots from his car in Dilu Road of New Eskaton area in the capital, injuring rickshaw-puller Abdul Hakim and auto-rickshaw driver Yakub, who succumbed to their injuries at Dhaka Medical College Hospital on April 15 and April 23 respectively.
Hakim’s mother Monwara Begum filed the murder case.
