Mariam Begum, younger sister of former President and Jatiya Party Chairman Hussain Muhammad Ershad, died of old-age complications at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) hospital in the city on Saturday. She was 83.
Mariam left behind one son, four daughters and a host of relatives to mourn her death.
She was buried at Mirpur Intellectual Martyrs Graveyard after Namaz-e-Janaza at Minar Mosque on Tajmahal Road at Mohammadpur in the city after Asr Prayers yesterday.
JP leaders, including party Secretary General ABM Ruhul Amin Hawlader, have expressed deep shock at the death of Mariam Begum.
