Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad on Tuesday again made ABM Ruhul Amin Howlader Secretary General of the party, removing Ziauddin Ahmed Bablu from the post.
Earlier on April 10 in 2014, he appointed Ziauddin Ahmed Bablu Secretary General of the party, removing Ruhul Amin Howlader from the post.
“I have removed Ziauddin Ahmed Bablu from the post for violating the party discipline and his failure to discharge his
responsibility,” Ershad told journalists in a press briefing at his Banani party office in the city. He said, GM Quader, a former minister, will also act as the Jatiya Party acting chairman in his absence.
“As time is running out, we will have to become very active, as the party’s national council is scheduled to be held in March,” Ershad said.
He ruled out about the split in the Jatiya Party, saying it impossible. The party is united and it will not be torn.
Jatiya Party. I am the Chairman of Jatiya Party. And my decision is final,” he said.
Referring to his wife Raushan, Ershad said, she (Raushan) couldn’t be the acting chairman of the party.
“As a Chairman of the party, I can only convene the presidium meeting. The meeting, which made Raushan as acting chairman, was not a presidium one,” he said.
Earlier on Sunday, the Jatiya Party Chairman appointed his brother GM Quader the co-chairman.
The Jatiya Party Chairman said when GM Quader was appointed party’s co-chairman at a meeting in Rangpur, there was no opposition.
“Taking opinions of leaders and workers, I have appointed GM Quader the co-chairman of party. Now he has been asked to prepare to take the charge of the party,” said Ershad.
A day after Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad made his brother GM Quader party’s co-chairman, another group of the party on Monday announced his wife Raushan Ershad’s name as the party’s acting chairman.
On Monday, immediate past party secretary general Ziauddin Ahmed Bablu at a press conference declared leader of the opposition in parliament Raushan Ershad as acting chairman of the party.
Bablu claimed that the decision was taken at a joint meeting of the party’s presidium and parliamentary party members at Raushan’s residence.
Meanwhile, Jatiya Party Parliamentary Party meeting held at the National Parliament complex yesterday afternoon rejected the party Chairman HM Ershad’s decision for making his brother GM Quader party’s co-chairman and ABM Ruhul Amin Howlader as secretary general.
“Not a single lawmaker of the party accepted the party’s chairman decision. We are requesting him (Ershad) to withdraw his decision,” Opposition Chief Whip Tajul Islam said.
However, Ershad, who also attended the JPPP meeting, said that he would not backtrack from his decision.
“I am firm on my decision and will remain unchanged until my death,” he told journalists at the parliament complex.
