Ershad gets official recognition as Opposition Leader

Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad and Co-chairman GM Quader have been officially recognised as Leader and Deputy Leader of the Opposition respectively in the 11th Parliament.
Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury recognised their positions in the Parliament, said a gazette notification issued by the Parliament Secretariat on Thursday.
Ershad was elected MP from Rangpur-3 seat while GM Quader from Lalmonirhat-3 in the recently held national election.
On January 4, HM Ershad announced that his party will be the main opposition in parliament while he will act as Leader of the Opposition in parliament and his brother GM Quader the Deputy Leader of the Opposition.
Awami League won the absolute majority in the national election bagging 257 seats in 11th parliamentary elections held on December 30 last.
Jatiya Party joined the general election as the key partner of the Grand Alliance and bagged 22 seats.
Party senior co-chairman Raushon Ershad was the opposition leader in 10th parliament while several MPs joined as cabinet members.
