UNB, Rangpur :
Jatiya Party (JaPa) chairman HM Ershad on Saturday said democracy is yet to be established in the country although he stepped down in 1990 for its sake.
“All political parties only talk about democracy but they’ve failed to establish it in the country till today,” he said while talking to reporters at his Palli Nibash residence at Darshana in the city.
Venting his anger at the killing of people in arson attacks, the JaPa chief questioned, “What type of democracy and movement is this where common people are being burned to
death in the name of hartal and blockade?” He also wondered how a party which talks about the politics of common people can kill them in arson attacks, saying: “Only God knows when they will get rid of this.”
Ershad, also a special envoy to the Prime Minister, reiterated his claim that the country’s people do not want to see two major parties
Awami League and BNP-in state power. “Rather, they want the Jatiya Party government.”
Ershad’s younger brother GM Quader, district JaPa convener Mofazzal Hossain Master, its city unit convener Mostafizar Rahman Mostafa and member secretary SM Yasir were present on the occasion.
