Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader on Wednesday said that the present state of river erosion would not harm the Padma Bridge construction.
The government however has taken enough initiatives to check river erosion, he added.
“The construction work of Padma Bridge is going on. However, the impact of river erosion was not ‘huge’ in the Padma Bridge area. We have already taken initiatives to check the erosion. In the meantime, 20,000 Geo-Bags sand have been thrown in the river. We have the plan to throw five lakh Geo-Bags of sand,” Obaidul Quader said.
The minister made the commitment while visiting the river erosion areas at Mawoa yesterday afternoon.
Executive Engineer of Padma Bridge Project Abdul Quader said, river erosion was started on Sunday near the Sinosidrao Sub-Station which 500 meters far from the Padma Bridge.
Another erosion was occurred on Monday which one kilometer far from the Padma Bridge. On Tuesday it was started at another point. About 150 meters area was damaged in three points. But no harm was seen in the Padma Bridge.
“It is time of water rising. Some tinny incident can be occurred on the bank of Padma.
The recent river erosion is not horrific. We stopped pilling in the erosion areas. But other activities are going on without any problem,” the emgineer said.
