One hundred meters dam collapsed in Bogra and Gabtala area of 35/1 polders of Pubo constructed in Sharankhola in Bagerhat recently.
At least 25 houses have been devoured and crop fields on vast tract of land have gone into the river .
Meanwhile, there are fears that erosion may be intensified at least 20 points of the area and panic among local residents has been prevailing.
On Wednesday afternoon, when visited the spot , it is learnt that in the morning of the dam measuring about hundred meters collapsed in the river. At that time the water of the tide entered into the crop field and flooded the vast area. Khalek Hawladar, Shamsu Sikder and Mati Mallik of Bogi village said , they have cultivated IRRI -52 varieties of rice this year but they feared to be damaged due to water scarcity.
Belal Hossain of the same village said that the fish farmed in his pond like other people have flown away.
Riyadul Panchayat of Bugi area said, “Irri crops of more than 500 acres of land were submerged. He expressed his anger and said that without giving the priorities of the dam construction work in the damaged and risky Southkhali area, the work is being done at relatively risk-free Sonatola, Rasulpur and other areas. As a result, the area was badly damaged due to frequent floods at Southkhali and Bogi.
Sarkhkhola Upazila Executive Officer Lincoln Biswas said, the matter has been taken seriously and emergency arrangements will be made.
