Eradicate social curses for development of women, children: Speakers

Speakers at a daylong orientation workshop have called for eradicating social curses like child marriage, dowry, gender discriminations, violence and repressions to ensure development of women and children.
District Information Office organised the workshop for community leaders under fourth phase of the Maas Communication Programme for Development of Children and Women at Sadar union parishad hall room in Sadar upazila of Panchagarh on Wednesday.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (Gen) of Panchagarh Ahmed Kabir attended the workshop as the chief guest with Panchagarh Sadar union chairman Zahedul Haque in the chair.
District Information Officer of Panchagarh Shariful Islam, Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Maksuda Begum Siddika, Deputy Director of the Family Planning Department Dr Mizanur Rahman, Haribhasha union chairman Jashim Uddin, Executive Director of ‘Desh Unnayan Sangstha’ Jahirul Islam and journalist Abdur Rahim addressed.
The local community leaders, officials, public representatives, teachers, Imams, women community leaders, socio- cultural and NGO activists, civil society members, journalists, professionals and local elite participated.
In their speeches, the speakers discussed about dowry, child marriage, child and mother health, breast feeding, vaccination of babies, birth registration, child labour, women empowerment, sanitation, safe drinking water, arsenic contamination in the workshop.
They stressed for building mass public awareness to eradicate gender discriminations, repressions and violence against women and children in any form and human trafficking to ensure smooth development of women and children.
