EP team due next week

A delegation of the European Parliament (EP) will be here next week to mainly discuss trade relations between
Bangladesh and the European Union (EU). The delegation will hold a meeting with the leaders of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) on November 15.
“We’ll mainly focus on trade issues and future cooperation,” BGMEA Vice President (Finance) Mohammed Nasir told UNB on Sunday.
A commerce ministry official said the delegation might arrive here on November 14 or on the early morning of
November 15 but did not elaborate the size of the delegation.
Chair of the Committee on International Trade (INTA) Bernd Lange and Chair of the delegation for relations with the countries of South Asia Jean Lambert, are among the delegation members, who will be visiting Bangladesh to discuss trade and labour rights issues with various stakeholders.
The delegation is likely to hold meetings with Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed, State Minister for Foreign Affairs M Shahriar Alam and others during their stay in Dhaka.
It will meet the media on November 17 before wrapping up the visit.
From 2011 to 2015, Bangladeshi exports to the EU increased from €10.8 billion to €17.6 billion, according to data available.
In line with the commitments made by the EU and Bangladesh under the 2001 Cooperation Agreement on Partnership and Development, the 7th EU-Bangladesh Joint Commission was held in Dhaka on November 11, 2015.
