BGMEA Cup, the first-ever inter-garments seven-a-side football tournament, organised by Bangladesh Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), begins today (Thursday) at Astro-Turf of International Turkish Hope School in Uttara.
Envoy Group will play Ananta Garments Ltd in the opening match at 4 pm.
Six more matches-Versatile vs Rayon Tex (4:45 pm) ; Sterling vs Comfit (5:30 pm); Interstoff vs Epyllion (6:15 pm); Bando vs Tamanna (7 pm); Rayon Tex vs Comfit (7:45 pm) and Apparel vs Torque (8;30 pm)— will also be held on the opening day (Thursday).
Twelve teams, split into two groups, will compete in 30-minute affairs of the week-ends tournament to be held on weekly holidays (Friday and Saturday).
Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed will be the chief guest in the cup final on April 1.
Participating teams are:
Group A – Epyllion Group, Interstoff Group, Apparel Industries Ltd, Torque Fashions Ltd, Ananta Garments Ltd and Envoy Group.
Group B- Bando Design Ltd, Versatile Group, Comfit Composite Knit Ltd, Rayon Tex Group, Sterling Group and Tamanna Apparel Group.
Top two teams from each of the group will qualify for the “Cup” semifinals while bottom two of the groups will play in the “Plate” semifinals.
Only permanent officials of executive level will be entitled to play in the amateur tournament that restricted for the professional players.
